New students will be admitted to different classes including class l through lottery due to Covid-19 situation, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said.

“We have taken a decision to admit students to different classes through lottery after discussion with experts and detail information will be disclosed within December 7,” she said yesterday at a virtual press conference.
“This year the catchments area will be enhanced to 50 percent from existing 40 percent and cluster system admission seekers can choose five schools for enrollment,” she said.
Considering the current situation, it is not possible to hold admission test with the students' physical presence and to arrange online admission test in every school is very tough, said Dipu adding “That’s why the government has taken the decision.”
“This year, the government has taken the decision among three alternatives -one is to take admission test with the presence of the students using MCQ questions while the second one is to arrange online admission test and the third one is to introduce lottery system for all classes,” Dipu Moni said.
2020-21 SSC, HSC exams may defer.
The Education Minister also hinted that the Secondary School Examination (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Examination (HSC) examinations of 2020-21 may be deferred for one or two months due to the Covid-19 situation.
“Already a short syllabus has been prepared for the SSC, HSC examinees as they could take preparation for the examination after attending classes for three months,” she said.
On October 7, Education Minister Dipu Moni said the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will not be held this year.
“The HSC results will be evaluated based on the students’ JSC and SSC results,” she said. “The results will be readied by December.”
Dr Dipu Moni said the decision has been taken considering the global pandemic and planning for a risk-free exam is virtually impossible at the moment.
Decision over taking examinations under Technical Education Board and NU
Talking about the other examinations under the Technical Education Board and National University, Dipu Moni said, “We have taken a decision in this regard and we hope we will be able to take examinations a month later."
“The number of the examinees under the Technical Education Board and National University is less than the number of examinees of other public exams and we hope we can take the examinations following health guidelines,” she said.
She also urged all the examinees to take preparation for the examinations as there will be no auto pass.
The schedule of the examinations will be announced one month before the examinations, she added.
Talking about the class VIII certificates, the Minister said the education board concerned will provide the certificates of Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) students.
Reopening school
Dipu Moni said the educational institutions will reopen after the improvement of Covid-19 situation.
The students need not go to school every day as they will have to attend school three/four days in a week after maintaining health guidelines.
The closure of educational institutions may be extended further after observing the current situation.
HSC and equivalent exams results
Talking about the results of the HSC and its equivalent examination, the Education Minister said the experts have taken a decision to publish the results after merging the results of SSC and JSC.
It that case 75 percent will be taken from SSC and 25 percent from JSC and the results will be published within December, she said.
“A technical committee was formed in this regard and they have provided a solution by which we can fix the grade,” said Dipu Moni.
The government has extended the closure of educational institutions until December 19, aiming to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.
